The vigilance of members deployed during mid-week operations ensured that two suspects are behind bars after drugs were found in their possession.
On Thursday, 20 July 2023 at about 11:55, members attached to Swellendam Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) conducted patrols in the vicinity at Railton when they spotted a suspicions looking man. The vigilant members approached him and ensued with a search. Upon searching the man police found a Hisense cellphones box with drugs stashed inside. Police confiscated 170 mandrax tablets and 5 tik straws that was found in his possession. He was arrested on a charge of possession in drugs.
In the meantime, the same day, Uniondale police members focusing on entry and exit routes to the province patrolled the R62 near Haarlem when a man at a hiking spot acted suspiciously. The members immediately approached the man who was unable to provide any documentary proof of his presence in the country. A search resulted in the confiscation of 32 bankies of tik found in his possession. The 27-year-old man, a Tanzanian national, was arrested on charges of possession of drugs.
Furthermore, on Friday, 21 July 2023, in Oudtshoorn arrested a man at the taxi rank after police found 31 bankies tik and 2 mandrax tablets in his possession. He is also facing a charge of possession of drugs.
The suspects remains in police custody and will appear in court once charged.
