Swift reaction by police foiled planned robberies following arrest of four suspects and seizure of illegal firearms

The Police in Apel together with Public Order Policing members arrested four suspects aged between 31 and 38 for possession of unlicensed firearms following a tip-off, on Tuesday 28 March 2023 at around 20h00.

According to the Information, the members received information about a suspicious black Toyota RunX roaming at Gankoana.

The members swiftly reacted to the information and the said vehicle was spotted along the D4190 road. They stopped and searched the vehicle with four occupants, and two unlicensed firearms with ammunition and two Voda pay machine were found in possession of the suspects. The suspects were immediately arrested.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were planning to commit a business robbery at the one of the garages at Apel area, and they are linked to various cases of carjacking, house and business robberies at Apel, Burgersfort, Dennilton, Jane Furse and Tubatse stations in Sekhukhune District.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest of the suspects, mostly the recovery of unlicensed firearms which will prevent more criminal activities from occurring.

The suspects will appear before Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court on 30 March 2023 for Possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The Police investigations are still continuing.
