Swift action by Witbank Visible Policing members who responded to a robbery, resulted in the speedy apprehension of two suspects, aged 45 and 51 after they robbed a business owner, his wife, and employees of his vehicle, groceries, and cash yesterday morning, Tuesday, 07 February 2023 at about 10:40.
According to information received, the businessman was offloading his stock at his tuck shop in Elpaso, Witbank when two suspects, one armed with a firearm, demanded cash and his vehicle keys. The businessman gave them an undisclosed amount of cash and vehicle keys. The suspects then took the vehicle, a Nissan NP 300 panel van fully loaded with stock amounting to tens of thousands of rands. They left the victims unharmed and the victim managed to alert the police who immediately launched a lookout for the robbed vehicle and the suspects.
Within minutes police noticed the vehicle matching the robbed vehicle’s description in Clewer, Witbank, with two occupants. Police intercepted the vehicle and found that the vehicle was still loaded with the victim’s groceries.
The suspects were arrested and were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine whether it was used in the commission of crime elsewhere in the country.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Thursday 09 February 2023, on charges of robbery and for possession of suspected stolen properties as well as for possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.
