Suspect arrested in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle in Protea Glen, Soweto.

A 51-year-old male was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 Unit in possession of a hijacked motor vehicle in Protea Glen, Soweto.

On Saturday, 11 February 2023, officers received information about a hijacked silver Volkswagen Polo Vivo sedan. The information indicated that the alleged suspect’s modus operandi was to request an e-hailing ride, and when the driver arrived he was hijacked.

The owner of the vehicle alluded that he was communicating with the driver at the time of the hijacking, and after a while, the driver was never heard from.

The officers responded to the information given, which led them to a residence at Madikane Street in Protea Glen where the sought vehicle was recovered in the yard, and the owner of the property was found in possession of the car keys.

The property owner was questioned and he could not give a clear explanation of how he acquired the hijacked vehicle.

When searched, the vehicle had blood on the driver’s seat and the floor which suggests that the driver was injured during the hijacking. The driver of the vehicle remains missing.

The suspect was immediately arrested and detained at Protea Glen SAPS, where the matter will be further investigated. The suspect is due to appear in court during the course of the week.
