Members of SAPS Temba arrested two suspects in two separate incidents in Mashimong Section 05 and Stinkwater respectively on Sunday, 05 February 2023 for possession of unlicensed firearms.
Police reportedly swiftly acted on community tip-off and arrested a 34-year-old suspect in Mashimong Section 05 yesterday and recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
On the same day, the members obtained another tip-off and proceeded to an identified address in Stinkwater. A search led to the recovery of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition; a 31-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested.
Also, on Friday, 03 February 2023 members of SAPS Temba recovered an abandoned rifle and ammunition after responding to a community tip-off; further investigation is still underway.
All the recovered firearms will be subjected to a ballistic test to determine whether they can be linked to other serious crimes committed.
