35-Year-old man kidnapped and robbed in Newcastle

A 35-year-old man was kidnapped by four men while returning to his home in Madadeni in Newcastle – KZN after work on Saturday (11/02/2023).

The victim arrived at Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) HQ at approximately 07:59 this morning (Monday) requesting assistance. According to the man, he was walking home from work on Saturday when four occupants of a silver Mercedes Benz (registration unknown) confronted him.

The suspect’s cable tied his hands behind his back and forced him into their vehicle. Three of the suspects were allegedly armed with firearms.

They drove the victim to an unknown location where they demanded his cellphone, bank card, and ATM PIN code. Two suspects remained with him in a bush while their accomplices allegedly proceeded to an ATM and withdrew cash. The suspects repeated the process until this morning due to the daily limit set on the account.

This morning they loaded him into the vehicle and dumped him in Canelands – KZN. After making inquiries from pedestrians, he was directed to RUSA offices.

He was not injured.
