Suspect arrested for the possession of stolen property and bribery

A 50-year-old male was arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 and IIOC Undercover Unit for possession of suspected stolen property and bribery in Fordsburg, Johannesburg.

On Tuesday, 24 January 2023, whilst conducting crime prevention patrols, officers spotted and stopped a suspicious Nissan Tiida at Crown Road in Fordsburg for a routine stop and search.

The officers sought permission to search the vehicle. 15 brand new cellphones were discovered during the officers subsequent examination of the vehicle.

The male driver, a Pakistani national, was unable to produce any invoices when asked to do so for the cellphones.

The suspect was notified that he will be arrested for possessing suspected stolen property. The suspect then attempted to bribe the officers with R1500 in exchange for his freedom.

The suspect was arrested and detained at Johannesburg Central SAPS where a case docket was opened for further investigation.
