SAPS Ngcobo Crime Prevention Unit members arrested four males aged between 29 and 38 years for kidnapping, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Saturday, 10 December 2022.
The arrest comes after police received information that a male was kidnapped in the town where he was selling his traditional herbs. Information was swiftly followed up which led them to Msawawa Location where a chase ensued between the suspects and police. The vehicle was stopped and upon searching it, four firearms and magazines with twenty-six (26) rounds of ammunition, an undisclosed amount of cash, and six (6) cell phones were recovered.
The 36-year-old male who was kidnapped was rescued and unharmed.
The suspects were detained on charges of kidnapping, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and will appear at Ngcobo magistrate court on Monday, 12 December 2022.
The Chris Hani District Commissioner, Major General Rudolph Adolph appreciated the swift response by the members in ensuring that the victim was found unharmed and firearms were recovered.
