Our focus to significantly eradicate the use of drugs and the possession of prohibited and unlicensed firearms in the Western Cape, resulted in the arrest of four suspects in isolated incidents on Wednesday, 24 August 2022.
Police members of Operation Restore pursued information relating to two males in possession of firearms, who happened to be passengers in a gold Toyota Avanza. Moments later they spotted the vehicle near NY1 in Gugulethu. They stopped the vehicle and searched the occupants and the vehicle. The members confiscated two 9mm pistols with ammunition. Two males aged 40 and 45 were arrested and detained on charges of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
In an unrelated incident, the police members focused their attention on known drug outlets in the West Coast area. They pounced on two identified addresses and conducted an intense search of the premises where they confiscated a consignment of drugs and cash. Two males aged 25 and 26 were arrested and detained on charges of dealing drugs.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Vredenburg Magistrate courts on the mentioned charges.
