Man in court for murder of e-hailing driver

A suspect was arrested for the murder of an e-hailing driver yesterday at 19:00 when police officers from KwaMashu SAPS responded to a report of a hijacked vehicle along Mandela Road.

Police spotted the vehicle traveling at high speed and pulled over the vehicle at a taxi rank. Three men exited the vehicle and fled on foot, however, police apprehend one suspect with a firearm and 31 rounds of ammunition.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle had been hijacked after the suspect had shot and killed a 38-year-old e-hailing driver on Grundel Road in Umbilo.

Further investigations will follow.
