A 42-year-old Ethiopian businessman was killed during a robbery at a tuck shop in Waterloo – KZN.
The deceased was seated in a white Hyundai H1 outside the tuck shop with an employee when the gunmen approached the passenger side of the vehicle and asked his assistant to unlock the doors. The victim exited the vehicle when the robbers fired shots through the passenger glass and the windscreen. They continued firing as he fled into the store.
He was shot in the abdomen and collapsed. The robbers then entered the business and robbed the premises of an undisclosed amount of cash before they sped off in a black vehicle (make, model & registration unknown).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received multiple calls from the public from 18:31 with regards to the shooting. On arrival, the businessman was found to have been fatally injured. Five spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
