Police members of the Anti-Gang Unit arrested suspects in possession of firearms and drugs on Wednesday, 23 March 2022, in Athlone and Khayelitsha respectively.
The members conducted an intelligence-driven operation in Athlone and tactically approached premises in Kudu Street in Kewtown. Upon searching the residence, they confiscated two 38 special revolvers with ammunition. The 47-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
In an unrelated incident, the members executed a search warrant at a residence in Manzini Walk-in Bongweni, Khayelitsha. Upon arrival at the address, they confiscated a pistol with ammunition and a consignment of drugs. Two males aged 35 and 37 were arrested and detained on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and dealing in drugs.
