Police ensures a safer environment for communities

Police in the Western Cape clamped down on unlicensed firearms and ammunition and disarmed four criminals on Thursday, 23 December 2021.

Kraaifontein police members were busy with patrols when they stopped and searched a residence in Blaai Crescent, Wallacedene. The members confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition and a consignment of drugs. A 21-year-old man was arrested and detained on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and the possession of drugs.

In an unrelated incident members of the Maitland, Flying Squad followed up on information relating to firearms at an address in Athlone. Upon searching the premises, a .38 special revolver and ammunition were confiscated. Three suspects aged between 16 and 21 were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Once charged the suspects are expected to make their court appearances in the Blue Downs and Athlone Magistrate courts respectively on the mentioned charges. The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lt General Thembisile Patekile praised the vigilance and determination of the police officers for being committed to ensuring a safer environment for the communities where they fulfill their duties.
