The vigilance of members attached to the Eden Rural Flying Squad who manned a strategically placed Vehicle Check Point (VCP) on the N12 (Oudtshoorn George-Road) landed a 30-year-old man behind bars after he was found to be in possession of 603 Boss Mandrax tablets to the estimated street value of about R63 180-00.
Earlier today, at about 11:00, members spotted the vehicle the suspect traveled in towards Oudtshoorn from the direction of George. The vehicle, a blue VW Golf was pulled over and members ensued with a search of the vehicle which was found to be clean. They proceeded with the search of the occupants and discovered a black bag containing 603 Boss-Mandrax tablets in the possession of the suspect. He was subsequently arrested and the Mandrax tablets were confiscated as evidence.
The 30-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in the Oudtshoorn magistrates’ court tomorrow, Friday, 08 October 2021 on a charge of illegal possession of drugs (mandrax).
Provincial Commissioner, Thembisile Patekile has praised the members involved for their diligence and vigilance that once again ensured that the streets of the Southern Cape are rid of drugs that pose a threat to the safety of our rural and vulnerable communities. He was pleased to announce that thus far, in one single week in the southern Cape alone, members’ vigilance has led to the confiscation of drugs to the extent of R2.2 million. He encouraged members to maintain the standard of service delivery and endurance in an effort to restore the dignity and safety of our communities.
