Hawks members from the Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation and Durban Public Order Police members arrested a 39-year-old suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm at Umlazi township in Durban.
It is alleged that members received information about a suspect who was in possession of an unlicensed firearm. They proceeded to the said house and requested permission to search. Upon searching the bedroom, a 9mm pistol with sixteen rounds of ammunition was found.
He was then placed under arrest and charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as ammunition. The seized firearm will be sent for ballistic test to ascertain if it was used in the commission of any crime in the country. He is expected to appear in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court today.
