Valuable information lead to arrest of two suspects and the recovery of stolen firearms

Follow up information led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of unlicensed firearms on Saturday afternoon at Mboya Location, Dutywa.

The arrest comes after Police were investigating a case of housebreaking and theft at Willowvale in May 2021 where two firearms were stolen. They received information about a male who was involved in the housebreaking and proceeded to his home at Nxanxashe Location, Willowvale. On investigation, the suspect took Police to his friend’s home at Mboya Location where these firearms were hidden. On arrival they met the friend and recovered the firearms in the kraal and the other one hidden in the grass. Two firearms both 9mm pistol and a magazine and two ammunition were recovered.

Thorough investigation led Police on N2 next to Dutywa Town where another firearm was hidden underneath a small bridge in a drainage pipe. Police found a Norinco pistol and a magazine with eight ammunition in a white plastic bag. The three unlicensed firearms were confiscated by Police. A 24-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and other 30-year-old suspect was arrested for Housebreaking and theft.

The duo will appear at Dutywa Magistrate court on Tuesday 10 August 2021.

The Acting Amathole District Commissioner Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu applauded the members for a job well done in ensuring that unlicensed firearms are off the streets and criminal activities has been prevented. He thanked the community for sharing valuable information with SAPS and encouraged them to keep on reporting any criminal activities that occurred in their localities.
