DRK Tactical responded to a vehicle hijacking in Berea and recovered the vehicle in Kwa Mashu

DRK Tactical Control Center received a call for assistance for a Hijacking that occurred on Vause Road within the Berea area.

The information was immediately circulated to our squad units in the area and within minutes of them receiving the information they arrived on scene.

Upon the arrival of our squad units, it was established that a single Indian male was fetching his children when he was approached by 4 suspects in a Toyota Etios.

Three of the four suspects jumped out of the Toyota Etios and held the victim at gunpoint. The suspects demanded the victims cellphone, wallet and keys for the vehicle, while the children remained seated in the vehicle.

The victim jumped out of his vehicle and was busy handing over his belongings to the suspects and had pleaded with the suspects to allow for the kids to go inside the house, when a neighbour came to his aid.

The neighbour who witnessed what was taking place from a distance, shouted at the suspects thereby disturbing them.
One of the three suspects then fired a single shot at the neighbour.

While the suspects were focused on apprehending the neighbour, the mother of the children managed to remove them from the vehicle and took them into the house for safekeeping.

The three suspects then left the neighbour, jumped into the victims vehicle and fled the scene towards Silverton Road.

The South African Police Services were called to the scene. A case has been registered pending further investigations.

Both vehicles were later found abandoned in Kwa Mashu.
