The Welkom Public Order Police Reaction Team deployed in Bethlehem arrested three suspects in Harrismith and Bethlehem respectively after they were found with copper cables confirmed to belong to Transnet.
In Harrismith, a 40-year-old man was arrested at his home situated in the vicinity of his scrap yard.
This was after the team received information on 27 July 2021 about a cable that was cut from Transnet in the Harrismith area.
The members followed up on the information only to find that the alleged thieves had fled. They extended their scope of the search and visited nearby scrap yards. When searching the house within the scrap yard, copper cables were found hidden under the bed inside a bag.
The suspect was arrested for possession of the suspected stolen property and is expected to appear before Harrismith Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 July 2021.
In Bethlehem, two suspects aged 43 and 50 are appearing in Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court today after they were arrested at a scrap yard during an operation with Transnet.
