Four suspects due to appear before court following their arrest for robbery and theft of bank cards

Four suspects, aged between 42 and 55, are due to appear before the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 22 April 2021, following their arrest by police on Wednesday. The suspects are alleged to have robbed victims of their belongings, including bank cards.

According to the report, members of the police were busy patrolling on the road next to the Mall in Tonga when they noticed a suspicious white Nissan Tiida with four occupants inside. They (police) then requested its driver to stop and upon searching the vehicle police discovered several items, including food, liquor, school shoes as well as an undisclosed amount of cash. Police took them to the police station for questioning and upon arrival at the Client Service Centre, there was a 28-year-old woman as well as an 18-year-old man who were busy giving statements on how they were robbed at the said Mall. The two victims immediately identified the four as their assailants and told police that the four robbed them of their personal items, including their bank cards. The suspects were then charged accordingly hence the court appearance.

They are facing a charge of robbery as well as possession of suspected stolen property and police cannot rule out possibilities of linking them to other robberies in and around Nkomazi area. It seems as if many people might have been preyed by these individuals hence police urge anyone around Tonga and the surrounding areas who might have been robbed but decided not to open cases, to contact police immediately.

In the meantime, the police management has applauded the vigilance displayed by members which led to the arrest of the suspects.
