School Safety programme educates rural schools in Alfred Nzo district

A team from Visible Policing and Corporate Communication and Liaison visited different rural schools under Mount Ayliff policing precinct in Alfred Nzo District on Thursday, 25th March 2021.

During the visit, learners of Arthur Ngunga Senior Secondary and Lugelweni Junior Secondary Schools respectively were sensitised about different issues relating to criminality in schools and society. Different career paths available within the South African Police Service were also highlighted.

Domestic Violence and Child Trafficking were explained in detail, with an aim of ensuring healthy and comfortable environment for children. The killings of the elderly and forced child marriages (ukuthwala) is also rive in the area, teachers were encouraged to be the eyes and ears of the police.

Young Educators’ Assistants, who have frequent close interaction with learners, were urged to play a role in ensuring well-being and development of children.

Respective school management were overwhelmed to witness the initiative, and further described child growth and development as a societal matter.
