A VW Polo was gutted after it bursts into flames on Umdloti Link Road in the vicinity of the Waterloo Spar in Waterloo.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received multiple calls from passing motorists reporting the incident. Reaction Officers and Medics were dispatched to the location and on arrival found the Verulam SAPS in attendance. A VW Polo was completely engulfed in flames.
According to the owner of the vehicle, he was on his way to a service station to top up the pressure on his tyres when he noticed smoke entering the vehicle through the air vents. He then pulled over and as he exited the car it burst into flames. Traffic was delayed due to the road being closed.
The fire was extinguished on the arrival of the Ethekwini Fire department.
