A 65-year-old man died of a heart attack while fishing in the vicinity of Durban View Park on Marine Drive in Umhlanga.
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Center received calls from other fishermen at approximately 05:38 requesting assistance after they noticed the man collapse while standing on the beach. The caller stated that he was not breathing.
Medics were dispatched to the beach and on arrival found that Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was in progress. Paramedics from RUSA, Netcare 911, and Crisis Medical attempted to resuscitate the man without success. He was declared deceased at the scene.
The deceased’s identity was not immediately confirmed as he was fishing alone.
