IMPERIAL proudly supported Thusanang Primary on Mandela Day

In celebration of Mandela Day 2013, IMPERIAL proudly supported Thusanang Primary in Molapo Soweto. Along with the Active Education team, the IMPERIAL team assisted with instructing the learners in road safety, painting the zebra crossing and training the scholar patrollers.

“As one of South Africa’s transportation leaders, we are committed to making sure that our roads remain safe, and certainly our work within the schools is paramount to this,” says Niki Cronje, Group Marketing IMPERIAL. “Mandela Day is an incredible initiative that reminds us that any action, no matter how big or small, can change communities for the better. We are proud to have spent the day with such an incredible school that truly understands the need to inspire its learners and equip them with the knowledge and skills to flourish in the future.”

Following the road safety activation at Thusanang Primary, the children were then treated to a day of fun – filled with games and activities – all of which was culminated in the cutting of the Madiba birthday cake at 11am along with his special happy birthday song, sung by everyone.

“Our time with this school, while an integral part of our commitment to Mandela Day, also forms part of our ongoing initiatives in this space,” added Cronje. “Going forward, we remain dedicated to the IMPERIALI-i-Pledge Scholar Patrol Upliftment Programme. This programme is undertaken in partnership with the Department of Basic Education, and has seen us working with over 191 schools, to date, to refurbish pedestrian markings at their school entrances, training educators and scholar patrollers in the basics of road safety awareness and sponsoring scholar patrol equipment, signage and visibility bibs.”

“Further to this, IMPERIAL will once again be undertaking our Car Seat Drive this year, where we distribute second hand refurbished car seats to families who are unable to afford these expensive but necessary items,” concludes Cronje.
