Driver In Critical Condition after crash on the N8

[BLOEMFONTEIN – 25 MARCH 2012 AT 16H30]

A collision on the N8 direction of Kimberley from Bloemfontein has left a driver of Hyundai I20 in a critical condition after the vehicle rolled and collided into another vehicle this afternoon.
Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found the vehicle in the middle of the N8 near to the road works that were being done to the road. The driver was still entrapped and in a critical condition. Paramedics assessed him and found that he had a suspected head injury and suspected neck and back injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient while the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic and rescue equipment were used to extricate him from the vehicle. Once the patient was freed he was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical intervention.

It is unclear why the driver lost control but it is believed he may have had some sort of mechanical problem and lost control. All necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.
