Dangerous Bloemfontein intersection claims life in fiery accident


One person has died in a serious motor vehicle collision this evening after a truck and a bakkie collided in Langenhoven park.

The cause of the collision is still unknown. When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene, they could immediately see that the collision was severe judging by the amount of damaged sustained to both vehicles.

According to bystanders at the scene the bakkie and the truck had collided with each other at the intersection of Nelson Mandela and Du plessies road at high speed. The bakkie then overturned and both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the bakkie had sustained severe injuries and was later declared dead at the scene.

The passenger of the bakkie was treated for serious injuries before being transported to Mediclinic Blomfontein for further medical care. Shortly after the collision the bakkie caught fire and was engulfed in flames shortly thereafter.

The driver and passenger of the truck had sustained only minor injuries in the collision and were also transported to Mediclinic Bloemfontein for treatment. Local law enforcement authorities who attended the scene will be investigating the incident further.
