An accident on the N2 under the Sarnia Road Bridge this morning at around 04h00 has left the highway closed in both directions. According to a report from one of the drivers, one truck was parked in the breakdown lane when another truck rear ended it, the driver then veered across the road and collided with the Armco barriers between the North and southbound lanes.
Fire department, ambulance services, police and traffic arrived at the scene and found both trucks to be well alight, some of the product from a tanker spilt out spreading the fire down the road. Fortunately, both drivers managed to escape from the trucks with no injuries; firemen battled the blaze and managed to extinguish it just after 05h00.
The highway will remain closed and people are asked to take alternate routes.
