Three people have died and four others were injured after two vehicles collided head-on along the P459 in Isithebe on the Natal North coast this morning at around 06h00. Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.
Netcare 911, provincial paramedics and the fire department arrived at the scene to find carnage, debris and the crumpled remains of the vehicles with the occupants still trapped in the twisted metal was found strewn over a large area of the roadway.
While firemen used the Jaws of Life to free the injured paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilise the patients. After triaging they found that two people had died on impact three were critically wounded and two had sustained serious injuries.
Paramedics worked fervently to resuscitate one of the critically injured patients, but despite all their efforts the patient died on scene bringing the death toll to three. After the other injured were treated on scene paramedics transported them to various hospitals for the care that they required.
