Rescue Care paramedics were called to a serious truck accident on the on-ramp to the N3 Durban bound from Spine Road just before 1pm today.
First to arrive on the scene Rescue Care paramedics found that a truck which had been rounding the corner lost control before going over the barrier and down the embankment entrapping the driver. Paramedics together with the Fire Department had to stabilize the vehicle before they used hydraulic equipment to cut the driver out. The patient sustained serious injuries and Advanced Life Support Intervention was needed to assist in stabilizing him. Once freed the patient was carefully extricated from the truck before being carried up the bank. The patient was then transported by Rescue Care to St Augustine’s Hospital for the further care that he required.
Traffic was severely affected as the onramp was closed from Spine road.
It is unclear what caused the collision however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
