We decided to provide greater clarity on the demerit system and specifically the effect thereof on speeding offences!
There are many hoax emails doing the rounds about AARTO and the demerit system. Some of these claim that the demerit system has started and others that you will lose demerit points if you exceed the limit with even one or two kolometres per hour! Both of these are incorrect.
We have decided to include, for the purpose of reference in exact stipulations pertaining to speeding and the demerit system!

The AARTO demerit points system is on hold indefinitely. As with many other functions that should be run by government and that has been “privatised”, corruption is suspected within the RTMC top management.

How can one take a law enforcement system seriously when you can get discount if you pay quickly and the threat of “full payment” and additional penalties are used as a blackmail tactic when you believe the system is wrong and you are right.
Has anyone been to the AARTO website lately? It used to be at http://www.aarto.co.za
They had some trouble with the service provider and moved the site to http://www.aartoza.co.za
Then it moved back to aarto.co.za and now it is gone again. What is in it’s place is very interesting.
