This question was sent to the Arrive Alive website yesterday. We would like to share the answer provided by one of the Experts from the RTMC:
“The Demerit Point part of AARTO will follow after the implementation of AARTO (Penalty Payment part) countrywide. The National Minister of Transport already indicated that he would like to see AARTO implemented this year on a country wide basis, the specific date must still be determined. I think you can be rest assured that this will only happen to the latter part of 2010″

I have just had a query from NWU about the implementation date of the demerit system. When will Aarto’s demerit system be implemented – I heard it was at midnight on Friday 14 October?

Demerit system should also be declared on unsafe roadways & traffic lights that are most of the time out order.
I am a HSE practitioner & creating thousands of rules does not solve problems.
Sometime rules adds more to the problem than solve the problem.
It is shocking that the law enforcement department that should be setting examples but are cause of some these accidents .Blue light brigade etc.
Suggest a tollfree number be given & action be taken against complaints..
