Eight motorists were arrested during the weekend along Sandton drive for speeding, while two were arrested for damaging a speed camera’s flashlight, Johannesburg metro police said on Sunday.
Spokesman Senior Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the eight motorists were arrested on Friday night after exceeding the 70km speed limit.
Two other motorists, aged 19 and 20, were also arrested after they threw a flashlight of a speed camera to the ground, destroying it, he said.
“The officer who operated the camera heard a noise as the camera flash broke and notified other officers who cornered the pair and arrested them.”
They would appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, along with the others arrested for speeding.
