Since yesterday the Arrive Alive website received a few emails with questions pertaining to the start of the demerit system. Examples of such questions are:
Question
- “I received an email this morning stating that the new demerit system is in place as of today. Can you clarify if this is true or not?”
- “Do you know if the demerit system has now been introduced in Johannesburg or when will the demerit system start here?”
This was referred to the Experts at the RTMC and a response received:
Answer:
“AARTO has basically two aspects, one is the penalty amount that are currently being levied for traffic infringements within the municipal areas of Tshwane and Johannesburg and the other part is the demerit points side that is NOT currently in force. Demerit points will only come into being once we have had the national implementation of AARTO.”
We would like to urge all visitors to visit the AARTO website for more info on the demerit system.
