~ Most up-to-date routes available online for free, to easily pre- plan a route before setting off on a journey ~
Johannesburg, 23 June 2009 – TomTom, the world’s leading provider of navigation solutions and digital maps today announces the introduction of a new route planner that will be accessible via http://routes.tomtom.com. The route planner for Southern Africa is available in both English and Afrikaans.
The web-based Route Planner allows users to easily pre-plan their routes online before setting off on their trip. It’s a handy tool for those want to be well-prepared for their long drive ahead and avoid getting lost or spending unnecessary time searching for a specific restaurant, garage, shop etc. In addition, map corrections that are made by TomTom users through TomTom’s unique Map Share™ technology, are regularly uploaded to the Route Planner, so users always have access to the most accurate routes based on the latest map information.
“The introduction of the online Route Planner in Southern Africa makes our award-winning navigation available for everyone to experience”, says Joost Jetten, Regional Manager for TomTom Southern Africa. “We believe that Southern African users can certainly benefit from this easy-to-use Route Planner which offers a perfect platform to showcase our routing technologies.
The Route Planner is available for a wide range of countries globally, allowing users to plan their route anywhere in the world before traveling. In the next few months the Route Planner will become available in even more countries around the globe. In addition, TomTom is incorporating users’ suggestions and new technologies and services to this platform and will continue doing so going forward.
“Users in European countries, where the Route Planner is already in use since December 2008, give the Route Planner high ratings. Additionally, we were recently rated ‘Best web-based Route Planner’*”, Jetten adds.
